I want to encourage others who thought about starting a garden but decided not to for whatever reason. This was very helpful. I’ve heard this info on others but the date information matters. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of your video. You’re my go to for my watermelons! Bet the same would nearly apply to cantaloupes.
HEY Marleigh!!! I'm glad it was helpful. You are welcome. I look at the color for the cantaloupes and when they are ready try pressing on the stem; it should just fall off. Yes, I'll back off the water when it's close like the watermelons.

HEY Cristian!!! Hopefully, you have time. I planted some 2 weeks ago because of the voles eating my melon plants. I hope we have time. I hope the weather is hot in September. I think it could be ok as long as that month cooperates with us.
I saw you on the VRA live today! That was a great interview today! I'm from the Lexington, SC area, so fellow South Carolinian here. I wanted to let you know that there are some solar mole/vole repellant spikes that may help. They have deterred moles in our garden and should help with moles too! That and the fact that our outdoor cat loves them! Keep up the great work!

Mine were in tangled when I bought them in twos so I’m worried. If you water too much the vine splits also and if it gets cold at night. Put sulfur in the splits of the vine . It will heal but keep the molds and viruses out.

Hey bear I love your videos super helpful but I have two questions and maybe you could help me but my watermelons look deformed and I don’t know why and also is it okay to start a watermelon plant during July in Texas or is it too late?
HEY Ronnien!!!!! I'm glad you liked the videos. They could be deformed because the plants did not get enough water or there were pollination issues. I have never started melons in July but I just started some 2 weeks ago from starts. I think it's going to be close. Most watermelons take about 100 days so if you have that try it. I would try to get seedlings though. If I were you I would check my local stores to see if they still have melons because I think they will stop selling them soon. If they have some I would get them and put them in the ground ASAP.

Yes, you can use it on your plants! It is good for them.
I watched another video from someone else about how and why to prune watermelon vines. A lot of the comments was saying DON'T cut the vines because the melons need the vines to make the melons sweet. So, I am confused. What I know I am going to do is an experiment. One vine I will prune, the one next to it, I WILL NOT prune. I will document what I do and post videos on the progress.
HEY Brenda!!! That is good you are doing your own experiments to see. I have not heard that before but every now and then I get someone saying not to cut the vine because of the health of the plant. My plants are healthy and several people message me saying it worked. 2 weeks ago, I did 2 shorts 7 days apart where I cut the vine and showed the results afterward. The short's title is Watermelon Pruning and Watermelon Pruning Results Part 2. When the watermelon starts to ripe you want to back off watering so the sugars are concentrated, making it sweet. If you don't back off watering your melon will be less sweet.

Hi, I'm trying grow sugar baby melons. since they are a smaller melon how long should the vine be prior to flower set. mine are only about 18" and setting flowers. should I add more N. Thanks
HEY Aaron!!! I don't know the answer to that. I never worry about the length of my vine before the fruit set. I have a plant with 2 flowers on it and it's about 2 feet long. Yes, you can still add nitrogen to encourage more leafy growth if you are not happy with the length of the plant.

Man, I wish I found your channel before this growing season. I'm learning so much! What is "Tea Compost?" And I just learned from one of your videos I should have used bone meal and worm casings when I first planted. Is it too late to add all of that now? I did clip some. Thank you!
HEY @That_Tall_Southern_Girl!!! Compost tea leaches all the nutrients from the compost to a liquid form so you can fertilize your plants. If you RUclips how to make compost tea, bear brown a video will show you. I'm glad that you are learning from the videos. I feel good hearing it, especially when my garden is not doing well because of the voles destroying it. I will figure something out for next season. It's not too late to use the fertilizers. They are good at any time! I just use it to get plants on a good start. It's not mandatory
